About
Kai Yep is a Peruvian-American artist, member of the Melkite Church, the Greek Church of Antioch in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
Kai grew up drawing cartoons and building his own toys. As a young man, he joined a religious community in Peru, where he was formed in the Western liturgical and theological tradition of the Church. During his time in formation, he designed and led the construction of two life-size stone mosaics and other artistic projects.
After discerning his call to married life, he started his career as a designer and received his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Graphic Design in California. He worked in branding, illustration, motion graphics, and UI/UX projects, in Silicon Valley companies, such as SAP and DocuSign, and in consultancy with clients like BibleGateway. He eventually joined the team of the Catholic prayer app Hallow, as a Senior Product Designer.
Despite a successful career in technology, Kai perceived God’s calling to return to the sacred arts at the service of the Church. He started a MA in Catholic Studies at Franciscan University of Steubenville, and a MA in Sacred Arts at Pontifex University. He’s also currently training under world-renowned Greek Orthodox iconographer George Kordis.
Kai and his family encountered the Eastern Christian tradition and fell in love with the Divine Liturgy, the life of prayer, fasting and mysticism of the East. He lives in Steubenville, Ohio, with his wife and two sons.
